AET, MONTECARASSO / The new administrative office of AET in Monte Carasso produces more energy than it consumes.
On the one hand, all technical components in the building can boast maximum energy efficiency, with a resulting reduction in consumption. On the other hand, energy is produced entirely from renewable sources, thanks to the photovoltaic plant installed on the roof.
It is a positive energy balance, consistent with the company’s mission making it the public office with the best Energy performance in the Canton.
Designed by architects Lukas Meyer, Ira Piattini and Francesco Fallavollita, the new building is joined with the old one via a closed connection on the first floor, as well as via a system of open and closed spaces. Depending on your view point, the new administrative office of Azienda Elettrica Ticinese appears impenetrable or transparent.
The nucleus of the office is in fact set back from the concrete modular grid facade. To the observer’s eye from the outside, the north and south facades appear like a long procession of parallel lines which, due to the geometric effect of light and shade, extend the structure’s perspective.
The amazing optical effect from outside the building is translated into visual comfort inside: the offices are in fact bathed for the most part in indirect natural light.
The site is lapped by the Ticino river and a stretch of water has been created between the existing and new buildings. The underground structure has therefore been built using the Drytech Tank system: a waterproof construction of 1'190 m², housing the utility rooms, changing rooms, storerooms and the AET general archive.
