RENOVATION OF VILLA WITH EX-POST DRYTECH CONCRETE BED, CITTADELLA / The renovation of an elegant building in Cittadella (Padova) was the occasion to make the underground spaces watertight.
The normal groundwater level in the area has never been a danger for underground storeys.
Nevertheless, in the last ten years, overflow from the nearby river Brenta has often flooded this area of the city and, as a result, the majority of cellars.
It was therefore decided to carry out ex-post waterproofing work of the underground levels of the villa which also ensured that the internal height and volumes were not reduced.
After having demolished the existing concrete bed, a new waterproof concrete bed was designed by Drytech Engineering together with the structural engineer.
The joint between the new structure and existing walls was prepared with a DRYset channel, as were the pillar perimeters. DRYset shrinkage crack inducers were placed next to existing reverse beams and other structural junctions.
All these elements, including sleeves applied to penetrations, were injected with DRYflex waterproofing resin which sealed all the details and cracks through pressure for the entire thickness of the structure.
This special use of the Drytech Tank as ex-post waterproofing is an increasingly frequent application, enabling underground structures to be reclaimed by adapting them to environmental changes or by ensuring any evaluation errors during geological analyses are corrected.
The experience that Drytech Engineering is gaining in this specific field is an important added value for structural engineers: because both the history of such work is still limited and every case often has new specific features.
